Fish Fry - Meen varuval

South Indian cooking style for Fish fry needs only a limited amount of oil, but fried for a little longer time by adding oil little by little. The fish is of your choice, but the best ones are seer (vanchiram), sangara (called tai in japanese) . More details at Fish name dictionary.

Ingredients

Fish pieces - 7nos
Chili powder – 1 tsp
Coriander powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Garlic – one clove
Pearl onion – 2 nos
Fennel powder – 1/4 tsp
Curry leaf – 5 leaves
Water – 2 tsp

Oil – 5 tbsp to fry

 

 

Preparation Method

Chop garlic and onion, crush them finely and mix it to fish with all the above ingredients and let it marinate for 1 hr.

Heat oil in a nonstick pan and place the fish evenly, fry them in medium flame for about 7 min, turn sides and fry for another 5 min. Remove them from the pan and let it rest for 10 min and serve warm.

Other names/spelling variations: Fish fry, Meen fry, Fish varuval, Meen varuval, Mean varuval

Meen or Mean is Fish in Tamil language.
