Poondu Rasam (Garlic Rasam)

Rasam is south india's most favorite dish. Its like a soup. You can drink it or mix it with white rice. Rasam helps digestion. We eat rasam after the main curry or sambar.

Ingredients ( Rasam Podi | Seasoning | For Rasam )

Ingredients for rasam podi (rasam mixture)
Black pepper - 3/4 tsp
Cumin seeds - 2 tsp
Red chilli - 2 nos
Corriander seeds 1 tsp
Toor dhal - 1 tsp

Ingredients for seasoning
Oil - 1 tsp
Mustard - 1/4 tsp
Asafoetida - 1 pinch
Red chilli - 2 nos

Ingredients for rasam
Tamarind - 1 lime size ball
Tomato - 1 no
garlic - 10 cloves crushed
Curry leaf - 5 nos
corriander leaves - 1 string
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Water - 3 cups

 

Preparation Method

Grind the ingredients for rasam podi into a powder and keep aside.

Add water to tamarind soak for 10 min and extract the juice. Crush the tomato to the juice and add all the ingredients for rasam to it except garlic. Add the above podi.

Heat oil in the pan and add the mustard when its done popped add asafoetida, red chilli and the crushed garlic fry for a min and add the tamarind mixture. When it boils reduce the heat to low, alow it to cook uncovered for 10 min. Convert it in a freash clean bowl and serve.
