Tamil festivals celebrated globally

Some of the Tamil festivals are celebrated globally. Some festivals are celebrated in a grand fashion and as sincerely as it is done in Tamil Nadu. This is because there are several generations of Tamil living in those countries. Some Tamils have not even visited India while they are Tamils because of their parents or fore-fathers.

The following are some of the Tamil festivals celebrated in a grand manner around the globe:

1. Thai poosam: This festival is celebrated on the full moon day in the Tamil month of Thai. It is a national holiday in many countires like Malaysia, Sri Lanka. This festival is celebrated for Lord Muruga getting a Vel (Spear) from his mother Goddess Parvati.

2. Deepavali: This is a nation-wide festival for Indians. Many countries (for eg: Malaysia, Mauritius, Singapore, Sri lanka) have declared national holiday for this festival.
