Aappakallu
Aappakallu is a pan used for making Aappam.
The Tamil language name "Aappakallu" is formed by two words "Aappa" which is short form for Aappam (whenever two Tamil words are joined, the first word may get truncated to accomodate second word as per Tamil language rules) and the second word is "kallu".

The lid of the appa kallu is closed to cook the aappam. This is very important.
This is a round bottomed pan which looks like a wok. Appam must be made using round bottomed pan. For those living abroad who cannot get hold of a round bottomed pan, you can try with a stir fry pan even though the bottom is little flat.
Appakallu is also called as Appa satti.
The reason for using the word "satti" is, "satti" is always round bottomed.
"Satti" is also a traditional cooking tool we use.
In Tamil Nadu, you can buy this kind of round bottmed pan in the super market. This pan could be either exclusively for making aappam or it could be a Vaanal.
