Pazhaya sooru

Pazhaya sooru or Pazhayathu is one of the healthiest and traditional food of Tamil country side. In Tamil language "Pazhaya" means "Old" and "Sooru" means "Rice". "Pazhayathu" means something that is old. Mostly this word is used to refer this food "Pazhaya sooru". Request not to use the literal translation as the meaning is lost. Pazhaya sooru is also called as Pazhaya Sadham.

This is the most simple and healthy food.

Pazhaya sooru famous among farmers as this is healthy.

The simplest form of Pazhaya sooru can be made with leftover steamed rice. Soak the steamed rice in a pot filled water (double the quantity of the rice). Keep it overnight. Eat them next day morning. The water from the pot is also delicious and healthy.

Optionally you can eat with pickle for side dish.

Other variations of Pazhaya sooru include:
1. Pazhaya sooru with dry chilli
2. Pazhaya sooru with mustard seeds bursted in oil and optionally adding dry chilli
