Wheat
Wheat is traditionally not famous in Tamil Nadu but these days wheat has become part of our meal for Break fast or Dinner.
The Tamil language name for Wheat is "Gothumai".
We use rice as such to steam and make food. We can also powder the rice to make some dish. However for wheat, we make a dish only from its dough or flour.
The below are two famous dish, breakfast/dinner items, made using wheat flour:
1. Chappathi
2. Gothumai Dosai
3. Poori
1. Chappathi:
The wheat dough is mixed with water, rolled out and fried over a pan (like pan cake) to make Chappathi. Nowadays, Chappathi is also made using multi-grain flour - these are available in most of the super market and is good for health when compared to just wheat flour. More detailed recipe is on the way.
2. Gothumai Dosai:
The wheat dough can also be used to make a Dosai variety called as "Gothumai Dosai". More detailed recipe is on the way.
3. Poori:
Poori is similar to Chappathi and the main difference is, Poori is made deep frying in the oil. More detailed recipe is on the way.
Unlike Rice, we eat food made of wheat only in breakfast or dinner.
