Maravalli Kizhangu

We have been eating Maravalli Kizhangu for many centuries. Maravalli Kizhangu are the roots of the plant Tapioca (in English). The Tapioca pearls are called Javvarisi in Tamil language.

In present day, Tamil cuisine and in general Indian cuisine, Maravalli Kizhangu plays a major role. In Tamil cusine, there are various ways of using "Tapioca":

Maravalli Kizhangu boiled:
Boiled Maravalli Kizhangus are eaten as such. Or it is mashed along with coconut threads and nuts and served as a snack.

Maravalli Kizhangu chips:
Maravalli Kizhangu chips is very famous in Tamil nadu. The chips are eaten raw or added with karapodi.

Tapioca pearls :
Tapioca pearls are called Javvarisi in Tamil language. They are used to make Payasam.
