Onion
Onion is a traditional vegetable. In Tamil language, we call it as "Vengayam".
Some times we call this as big onion as there is a small onion which is used for making Sambar.
We can add Onion and Tomato in almost all our dishes, it is only a personal choice. Onion has many health benefits. There are some dish where we use Onion as main ingredient for example: Onion chutney.
Onion chopped:
Chopped Onions are used for almost all dishes. Small quantities are used for Sambar and Kuzhambu. While double of that portion is used to make Non-veg meat dishes.
The cut size matters for some dish. For example: Above image is an example of Onions cut for making Mutton Fry and the Below is image of onions cut for making Crab Kuruma:
