Pickles

Pickles is called "Oorugai" in Tamil language.

When we do not have time to make side dish, Oorugai comes to help.

We all will stock up one or more kinds of Pickles at home. Some people have habit of eating pickles for every meal. Pickles are had just a spoonful not more.

Pickles are best to go with Sambar and Curd rice or More Sadham

Some of the common pickles found these days are:
1. Lime pickle
2. Mango pickle: This is made using green mango and not the ripe one.
3. Tomato pickle
4. Nellikai pickle
5. Narthangai oorugai: This is a traditional pickle and it is a dry pickle.
6. Carrot pickle

Some of the pickles like lime, mango, nellikai are available in salted dry form as well is in a oil gravy form.

There are non-veg pickles too. The non-veg pickles are famous in Andhra and common in their country side. They make pickles from Prawn, Chicken and Fish.
