Thuvayal

Thuvayal is the famous side dish for Breakfast dish like Idly or Dosa. There are a many kinds of Thuvayal. Let us see some of the common and famous Thuvayal here.

The main difference between Chutney and Thuvayal is that thuvayal is thick whereas Thuvayal is watery. Of course there are some ingredient which we use gives the basic difference in taste.

As you can note, some main ingredient is used for both chutney and thuvayal. And for some, there is no thuvayal version, for example, Tomato chutney is there but not thuvayal.


Coconut Thuvayal:
Simple coconut Thuvayal can be made by grinding coconut, chilli and ginger into a thick paste. You can add split dals along with coconut. Then add water to dilute them. Finally add tempered mustard seeds. In olden days, we used ammi kallu to make the Thuvayal. More detailed recipe is on the way.

The Tamil name is Pudhina Thuvaiyal.
