Cashew nut

The Tamil name for Cashewnut is "Mundhari kottai".
Just "Mundhari" means "Cashew" and "Kottai" means "Nut".

In present day, Tamil cuisine and in general Indian cuisine, Cashewnut plays a major role. In Tamil cusine, there are various ways of using "Mundhari":

Cashew fruit:
In the country side of Tamil Nadu, people eat the fruit of Cashew during the season.

Cashew nut:
At the tip of the cashew fruit is the nut.

The young nut is used as a vegetable to cook dishes like potato fry, mutton fry.

The fully grown nut is used for sweets and desserts.

We also eat it raw
or
Roast them with ghee and eat them, optionally adding spices like karapodi.

In North Indian cuisine, cashew is made into a paste and used for making curry.

Popular dish where Cashewnut is used:
You can add in all desserts/sweets, two of them that quickly comes to your mind is Payasam and Kesari.
In some dishes, like Mutton fry, we add young cashew nut. This is famous in the country side particularly where Cashew is grown.

Mundhari, Mundiri, Mundhari kottai, Mudhari pazham, Mundari palam
