Avarakkai Poriyal

Avarakkai is a traditional vegetable which is good for health particularly during pregnancy and during baby feeding time.

Poriyal is a kind of saute.

The best part of Avarakkai Poriyal is, it is simple to make and it is delicious.

Clean and de-vein both sides of the Avaraikkai.
Then slice them to thin pieces.

Heat water in a pan and cook the Avaraikkai until it gets soft.
Usually this takes about 5-7 min.

Now let us do the tempering.
Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds when it splatters add urad dal.

When it turns golden brown add curry leaves, green chili and chopped shallots, fry for 2 min.

Add cooked Avaraikkai (as done in Step 2), along with salt and grated coconut and fry for a couple of mins.

Transfer to a bowl and serve hot for the lunch course.
