Vaazhaikkai Poriyal

Vaazhaikkai is a traditional vegetable with lot of health benefits. Vaazhaikkai is from the Banana family.

The best part of Vaazhaikkai Poriyal is, it is simple to make and it is delicious.

Peel off the Vazhaikkai skin and dice it to edible size cubes.

Heat water in a pan and cook the diced vazhakkai cubes until it gets soft.
Usually this takes about 5-7 min.

Now let us do the tempering.
Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds when it splatters add urad dal.

When it turns golden brown add curry leaves, green chili and chopped shallots, fry for 2 min.

Add cooked Vazhakkai cubes (done in step 2) along with salt and grated coconut and fry well for 2 min to get a mild crisp.

Transfer to a bowl and serve hot for the lunch course.
