Wash and Soak Bengal gram (Channa dal) in water and keep it untouched for four hours (for best results keep it overnight).
Cut the Onions, crush the garlic and remove curry leaves from the branch.
Cleaning process of Prawns is a time consuming one. If you are in India, typically cleaning process is done when you buy. You should get it cleaned properly and carefully by instructing the person to remove the dark black/brown thread inside the prawns that starts from head to tail.

Remove the water from soaked dal (from Step 1) and add in the mixer grinder.

Add chopped onion and crushed garlic.
Add curry leaves. You can also add mint-leaves. Or not add any leaves which depends on the taste you like.

Grind the above to a thick paste like below.

Add rice flour, masalas as per ingredient list and Shrimp (from Step 1). Mix them.

Vadai Mix with Prawns is ready for frying.

Take a round ball of the mixture and flatten them.
Make about 4 vadais and fry them.

Ensure both sides are fried and become brown color - take care not to blacken the vadais. Serve hot in a plate.
You can make small size vadais. Actually you can make any size and shape - the smaller the better as it will get fried properly and crispy too.
